Meantime, Susie’s mum finds great hilarity in her daughter’s romantic quest. In her optimistic attempts to find love Susie undertakes every form of dating imaginable including Europe’s last Matchmaking Festival in Ireland. Along the way she gamely explores ways to tackle the “Seventy Signs of Ageing”, takes herself off on a journey of self-discovery to the Far East, and reflects on just what love is.
Then comes the credit crunch...

I found this book more poignant than hilariously funny, which is what I expected it to be. Being half Scottish and half Irish, and well into my thirties before I found "the one", there was a lot I could identify with here. There were some truly comical moments, but also a lot of sad reflection on the dating scene out there, which struck me as unfortunate and true.I feel the author has tried something different here, it certainly isn't a feminist rant, and it certainly isn't your usual slushy chick lit, instead it's something much more honest and thought provoking. I loved the lead character and I loved the humour, as well as reading about Scotland, which I am intensely homesick for.
Well done Jackie for stepping out with the commercialism of tried and tested formats and using your art to create something unique.

The writer is a stuck-up, judgemental fool spending 200 pages on pointless stories with no timeline, organization or even charm. There is no real story and it ends up a quasi-political statement instead of the lighthearted read it set out to be. Perhaps the story could have covered personal growth and acceptance instead of male bashing, snobbery and blatant racism.
I absolutely adore the honesty and humor in this book. It was also interesting to see the world through the eyes of someone much older and wiser than I am, and realize that men are confusing to us all! The only thing I was disappointed with was that by the end of the book she hadn't found anyone yet. I realize this is a life story and she may not have, but I would have liked to see her end up happy with someone at the end of it all! But again, very funny book and I would recommend it.
